Following his debut for Superfreq in late 2017, UK super-producer Saytek (aka Joseph Keevill) returns with Voltage Controlled, the second in a series of releases on Mr.C’s cutting edge house and techno imprint.
Influenced by big nights at many of Superfreq icon Mr.C’s seminal parties – including Vapourspace, Subterrain, and the early Superfreq events – Saytek has become one of the electronic music scene’s most in-demand live acts. Namechecked by Carl Cox as ‘one of the UK’s freshest and exciting acts’ and selected by Danny Rampling as the only live act to perform at the Shoom 30th Annniversary Party, Saytek writes, produces and performs everything live on the fly, using a myriad of machines and effects.
Voltage Controlled channels the energy and excitement of a live Saytek set and distills it for DJ friendly consumption. The title track, with its twitchy acid, buzzing bassline and stomping 909 groove evokes a classic late 80’s ‘hands in the air’ outdoor rave vibe that brings back memories. “Ouida & Bass” follows, delivering a deep groover with its tribal chants, bongos and hand percussion, and rumbling sub-bass that will keep the floor bubbling. “Shutting Down” is a moody, dub and effects inflected late night jam that subtly builds and breaks and builds again before charging towards a luscious finish to round out this excellent release.
Founded by UK acid house legend and former Shamen frontman, Mr.C, the Superfreq label is the recording arm of Superfreq
